  • This past weekend was the Houston Greek Festival held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral complex near the University of St. Thomas in Houston.  After hearing about it for several years from a number of friends, my sister and I decided to finally check it out.  While there we feasted on gyros, soulvaki, baklava, and a bunch of other Greek dishes I can't quite remember.  Wine and beer is also available at the festival, so of course we obliged by splitting a bottle of wine.  Other festival activities include an interesting market area with everything [...]

  • Next Wednesday on October 3 we'll be hosting the next Whiskey Wednesday from 6-9pm.  I've had several people ask me if we ever do scotch at Whiskey Wednesdays, so next week we're featuring Glenlivet 12. Scotch is definitely an acquired taste, moreso than other spirits.  A good friend of mine, who happens to be a scotch enthusiast, agrees that Glenlivet 12 is a good "intro" scotch.  When making scotch, peat moss is burned to dry the malted barley, thus giving it its distinctive flavor.  A lot of times scotches can have a very smokey, peaty flavor [...]
