Staying cool, let alone fresh during our summer months here in Houston is quite a feat. From the moment you step out your front door you're greeted with the discomfort we like to call humidity. If Dri-Fit or Under Armor were appropriate work attire and we can all agree it's not (unless you're an athletic trainer) we would probably wear it throughout our summer months so we could protect our house...err our bodies from the heat. This is where linen comes into play. Linen is a textile made from fibers of a flax plant called linum usitatissimum. Linen is labor intensive to manufacture, but when it is made into garments, it is valued for its exceptional coolness and freshness in hot weather.
Linen is the perfect weight/fabric for our summers. While this is probably what you think when the word linen comes to mind, Vanishing Elephant has found a great way to incorporate linen into a great short sleeve shirt. The mix of patterns and colors makes this shirt very versatile whether you want to wear it with your favorite pair of denim or the perfect UNIS chino in Mist. Top it off with your favorite pair of dirty bucks for the summer and you're good to go. Did I mention how soft the shirt is from the get go? This shirt will only get softer after washes and what's even better is this shirt isn't see through! If this doesn't convince you, feel free to stop by the shop if you're in the Houston area and see for yourself!
